Myth
During cataract surgery, cataract surgeons use medications to help keep your pupil open. OMIDRIA is the only one of these combination medications that is approved by the FDA.
Other medications used during surgery for this purpose are compounded products, which means they are made by a pharmacist in a compounding pharmacy. They don’t go through the same quality tests as medications approved by the FDA.
OMIDRIA is mixed with surgical solution that is used by your doctor during cataract surgery. One medication in OMIDRIA (phenylephrine) may increase blood pressure if levels get too high in the body. Because of how it is given, this risk may be lower when used in the eye.
You should not receive OMIDRIA if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Before receiving OMIDRIA, tell your doctor if you:
have a sensitivity or allergy to aspirin, painkillers or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs); or
have a history of asthma; or
are pregnant or breast-feeding, think that you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby
Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The most common side effects of OMIDRIA include:
inflammation inside the front part of the eye
increased pressure inside the eye
formation of cloudy scar tissue behind a lens implant
eye irritation or discomfort
You may also be sensitive to light after being treated with OMIDRIA.

OMIDRIA® (phenylephrine and ketorolac intraocular solution) 1% / 0.3% is a prescription medication used during cataract surgery. It helps the black part in the center of your eye (pupil) stay open (dilated) during cataract surgery and decreases eye pain after surgery. OMIDRIA has been proven safe and works well in adults and children.
